Linksys phones are made by Cisco and are meant to provide networking solutions for home and office users. Linksys itself was founded in 1988 and it was acquired in 2003 by Cisco systems. Apart from phones, Linksys also makes broadband wireless routers for internet users, network storage systems, VoIP equipment and other communication related products. The Linksys CIT200 Skype phone is one of the popular products by the company. This phone has been produced as a result of a joint collaboration between Linksys and Skype. The CIT200 has a working platform of DECT 1.8-1.9 GHz and comes with a backlit color display. You can make and receive calls through Skype and can even view and edit contacts and your profile. The base station acts an intermediary connecting the PC and the phone. The base station is connected to the PC via USB and with the handset through the DECT Standard. You can scroll through your Skype contacts and see their current status (online, offline).

The SPA-942 is another one of the popular Linksys phones. This phone is compliant with VoIP and is meant for business users. It falls into the category of Linksys ip phones due to internet connectivity. This phone operates on the SIP standard making it compatible to be used by IP PBX systems. The SPA-942 is a newer model of the SPA-941 and all the things people disliked in the older version have been addressed and improved. The handset has been made much lighter while the display and overall sound quality are also much better. The number of Ethernet ports has been increased from one to two in this Linksys ip phone. The display is high resolution and gives a high pixel display. The SPA 942 also has power over Ethernet capability which was also missing in the previous versions. It has other standard features like backlit display, Call transfer, Call forwarding, VLAN ability and an indicating light for a waiting message.

Apart from the CIT2000, there is also the CIT3000 by Linksys. Like any standard phone, this Linksys phone consists of the headset, the charger and the USB base station. The USB base station of this phone doesn’t need to be connected to the PC for Skype connectivity. The PC should be on if you want to make Skype calls through the handset. One of the best features of this phone is the ‘page’ button on the base station. If you misplace the handset and can’t find it, you can press the ‘page’ button which plays a loud melody on the handset so that you can locate it. The handset has slightly larger size than normal cell phones which is a plus point since it only has to be used inside the house. With a color display and stylish design, the CIT3000 is perfect for use in homes or small offices.

With the constant advances in technology, now it has become possible for internet users to connect to the internet without a telephone line through a broadband phone line. With a broadband phone line, you don’t have to pay to get a land line installed at your place. Plus, you also don’t have to pay the monthly line rent since you don’t have land line. Be choosing broadband without a phone line, you save money that you will spend on a phone line. Besides saving money, broadband connections provide very fast speeds since the speed of data transmission is higher. A page gets loaded quicker and downloads like movies and songs are made easier by a broadband connection. A broadband connection is functional 24/7. This means that you can surf the internet as soon as you turn on your computer.

Not only do you save money because of broadband no phone line, broadband connections are billed according to usage and not according to the time factor. The less you use the internet, the less will you have to pay. There are a few options available with you when you want to get broadband without phone line. The first option is to get a broadband connection through a fibre optic cable. This service is offered in communities by companies which provide fibre optic connections to every home. Usually, such like services have to be availed in a package of two or more services. You might have to get other services like a cable TC connection along with the broadband connection.

Another way of getting a broadband connesction is through power lines. This technology is more commonly known as DSL. This internet service makes use of the unused telephone wires which don’t cause any interruption with other telephone lines. The speed which you get through a DSL connection is amazing. The speed also depends on your distance from the switching distance. The closer you are to the switching station, the faster the speed and vice versa. Cable television companies are also providing internet services these days. The speed of cable connection is directly dependent on the number of users. Users within a geographical area share the connection bandwidth which means as the number of users increase, the speed of the internet gets slower.

If you want to avoid wires in your home, you can get wireless broadband internet which is mostly faster than Cable or DSL. The cost of getting a wireless connection is higher when compared to other forms of broadband internet. Through a wireless connection, your pc is always connected to the internet. Before getting broadband, you will need to check its availability which is dependent on your geographical location.

VoIP video conferencing has emerged as a major tool of communication in professional organizations. It provides quick access to dispersed teams that need a weekly or monthly meeting to discuss their goals and set new deadlines and benchmarks. It is also a great way of interacting across the globe with partners and sister organizations in a very efficient manner. Given the fact that costs are also low, it has become the preferred choice in many organizations.

VoIP video conferencing is a cheaper option as compared to dedicated conference lines and other arrangements. The first saving is made when you do not have to use any papers, phone lines and other items to start the conference. A larger saving is made when you are able to connect to all parts of the world, including the remotest ones if they have internet connections. It is extremely cheaper to have a simple video chat with your employees and business partners over the internet and sharing all the files online instead of either inviting them or visiting those countries and spending thousands of dollars.

VoIP and video conferencing is simple to set up and simpler to conduct. It only requires a connection to the internet and an account with a video conferencing tool. This tool maybe an inbuilt feature into the internet connection that you are using or it may come in the form of external software. External programs are generally used in most organizations as they provide better service and quality.

You can set up a video conference by installing the tool into your main workstation and ask the other participants in other cities and continents to do the same. Skype has emerged as the most popular tool for video conferencing but other software also offers quality service. The only difference between them and Skype is the fact that the latter offers free service while you have to pay other companies to allow you this facility.

VoIP conferencing can save you money if you plan the conference well in advance. The first thing to take into account is the number of participants in the conference and what type of software they will be using. It is necessary that all agree on a single protocol to make the conference proceed. Preliminary checks are also required to ensure that microphones are working fine and video camera is relaying the pictures clearly and into all the places. Some advanced tools offer extreme guidelines on setting up the most flawless video conferences. These tools do not come for free but will be of great help if you are organizing a major conference and cannot afford any glitches or hiccups. You will still save money on this conference because you will be able to share everything online and can reach some quick decisions at the very spot instead of waiting for weeks if you had used ordinary correspondence.

The facility of managed VoIP has been incorporated into the cordless phones for many years. In recent years however this technology has become more widespread and offers better features. Before delving deeper into the world of cordless phones, it will be a great idea to understand VoIP. It is basically the abbreviation of Voice over Internet Protocol.

The concept of managed VoIP is pretty simple. It means the transfer of voice data and audio over the internet. Instead of using analog or digital telephonic signals, internet protocols serve as the main carriers of information. They transmit voice data by converting the audio into Internet Protocol packets that are later decoded and reverted back to their normal audio form at the receiver’s end. The whole process hardly takes a second. This fastest means of communication has made this technology a first choice among business organizations as well as home users.

There are many managed VoIP services offering a multitude of features to both business and home users. These services however are better suited for business users given the fact that they offer high level of communications. If defined in simple words, you can use this technology to manage up to 20,000 calls at a time. You can use managed VoIP solutions to disconnect any call, transfer thousands of calls at one time and record any audio, if required. You can also monitor the traffic and the quality of service along with the daily business generated through this system.

The benefit of managed IP telephony is the fact that you do not have to undergo any long procedures of maintaining and switching these calls. You can simply hand over this responsibility to the company hosting this service. You will still be able to read all the daily reports of call received and generated along with their durations, time, location and other statistics. This data will be crucial in keeping an eye on the daily activities of your employees and will also help you to monitor the whole situation. You can tally the statistics with the monthly bills and can find any contradictory billing and rectify that problem.

VoIP phone is available in a multitude of varieties and designs. Most common among these varieties have a simple format that is similar to ordinary phones. There are however some additional buttons that offer you to monitor the data and disconnect any calls over the system. LCD displays are also available where constant information is being generated during the course of the call. Some advanced phones may also offer graphical statistics and other data if you are using them as the main connector phone in an office. There are simply many varieties and you can use this technology to your maximum best.

The ability to make VoIP conference calls can come in really handy in many situations, particularly when you need to hold a conference with people located in other parts of the world. However, when you place a VoIP conference call, the acoustic information is sent via digital packets using the internet, instead of public phone networks. What it means is that there is always a possibility of your message becoming distorted when the packets have to travel to distant places.

There are many reasons for a conference call becoming distorted and the most common of these is the fact that transferring acoustic information to distant places inevitable involves the digital packets to travel across various hubs and routers. Whenever a packet travels from one hub or router to another, there is a risk that the VoIP call may become distorted.

Obviously, on some occasions you may not notice any disturbance in the audio call and this is mostly because there is not much load on the internet, meaning that not many people require access to the same router through which your call is passing. However, only a minute delay can cause the sound to break up and spoil the quality of the VoIP conference communication.

In order to ensure that your VoIP conference calls don’t experience these disturbances, you should get an internet connection that doesn’t make use of public networks, but is rather an intranet whereby just a single network that has its own dedicated hub
is used to host the conference call. One limitation of intranets is that they are only suitable for making calls to coworkers and you have no other option but to rely on public networks in order to call people over long distances.

Nevertheless, if you can plan your VoIP call in off peak hours, you can be assured that internet connection will not be very busy and hence the risk of distortion will be minimum. When choosing your VoIP conference phone, you need to take extra care and caution. The best is to stick to well known brand names in order to improve your chances of success.

If you are looking to buy a quality product, ClearOne Communications is a company you should look for. They have a unique range of phones offering superb features and outstanding functionality. Models like Max IP VoIP and MaxAttach IP are really worth spending money on.

Choosing a VoIP device for you business can be a challenge. However, if you consider your options carefully, the decision to resort to internet telephony can prove to be highly beneficial.

The first thing that you need to make sure when looking to buy a VoIP phone device is that it is compatible with your current hardware infrastructure. This is to ensure that you don’t have to buy specialized hardware in order for the VoIP-based device to work. You should also try to choose a device that comes with an easy-to-use management interface.

The device should make use of the several available networks i.e. internet, extranets, intranet, PSTN etc in order to route calls effectively. All calls should be able to travel to their destinations through the most inexpensive route on hand.

Make sure you select an up to date VoIP set-up, rather than an upgraded adapter-based system. While you may decide to equip your current phone system with VoIP adapters, this may not prove to be the most intelligent decision in the long run. The only benefit of using this approach is that you will be able to transfer calls over an IP, but you will not be able to benefit from other VoIP features, for instance, the option to hook up data directories with your phone system and the option to make use of all networks available to route each call in the most effective way.

Look for VoIP devices that offer true portability in order to enable you to make and receive phone calls from any place in the world. The VoIP system should be able to function like webmail where the only thing sender requires is the receiver’s id, while the receiver should just be able to log in to retrieve messages.

While fancy looking phones may appear attractive, you should focus on the features. Computer these days are equipped with microphones and speakers and if you make use of these, there will be no need to have a separate phone for each employee. All you need to do is to install softphones and enjoy great cost savings.

Last but not least, the decision to choose a VoIP device should depend on the benefits it offers. You shouldn’t focus only on how the device will help you reduce your telephone expenses. Instead, you should also consider how it will assist your organization and enhance productivity. There is no point of spending on a device if it’s difficult to tackle and/or doesn’t enhance productivity.

The USB Phone is rapidly becoming the most commonly used USB VoIP device. It combines user friendliness and low cost with the famous design of a traditional phone set, which is one of the main reasons behind the USB VoIP phone’s fame. USB phones are quite straightforward; they basically feature a built-in speaker, microphone and a keypad, which connects to your computer through USB.

USB phones are very much similar to their traditional phone handset counterparts and work pretty much in the same fashion. The only limitation of these phones is that the USB handset can only function when the computer is switched on. The most obvious benefit associated with VoIP technology is that you can bring your phone number to anyplace you go. Since the telephone service doesn’t rely on telephone lines or any specific address, the device can receive and make calls from anywhere as long as there is an internet connection.

Obviously, mobile phones are also portable; however, the service may by expensive, particularly during weekdays. VoIP packages usually allow unlimited calls within the US (at times to other countries also) for monthly charges that are much lower compared to plans offered by mobile phone companies.

Many phones companies these days have come up with USB devices to allow you to benefit from VoIP technology. While all these VoIP devices may appear attractive, you should consider how portable VoIP could be useful for you before making the decision to purchase a USB VoIP device and subscribing to a service package. If your mobile phone package provides you cheap calling facility with fine coverage, VoIP may not benefit you that much. If, on the other hand, your mobile phone package doesn’t offer you all this, then VoIP phone calls may cost you considerably less than mobile phone calls. This is particularly true if you make international calls frequently, as the difference in price is much greater.

If you want to use a VoIP device as a replacement for cellular service, then you should have a fast-speed internet facility in order for VoIP to work properly. It must also be remembered that portable VoIP devices are not compatible with 911 locator service and hence are not a good choice in times of emergency.

A USB phone VoIP will more or less do the same things that Skype does. However, they don’t require any software to be installed on the computer. This makes them a perfect choice when you are using public computers or other workstations where installing software is not desirable.

There are numerous VoIP devices available so that you can make PC to phone calls using something other than a headset and/or a microphone. There are a range of options obtainable such as USB phones, analog telephone adapters (ATA), and internet protocol (IP) phones.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) allows you to make cheaper than what you pay for your phone service from your provider. First of all, VoIP uses the internet to make calls so there is no need to pay your phone provider to maintain a telephone line or for phone and line rental. Not only that, but the traditional phone services also charge higher rates for long distance calls, different rates for different parts of the world. In the case of VoIP, calls can be free if the person that you are talking to is using the same VoIP service, and VoIP to phone calls cost considerably less. This gives VoIP a considerable advantage over landlines.

The USB VoIP device is gaining popularity among PC to phone users due to its low cost and ease of use. USB phones mainly consist of an integrated speaker, microphone and keypad and connect to the computer through a USB port. They usually resemble conventional telephone handsets and function nearly the same way making them easy to use. One of the drawbacks is that it is not supported by all PC to phone service providers. Before buying one, check whether a USB phone will be supported. Prices vary according to model and manufacturer but USB phones typically start at around $25.

ATA, or analog telephone adapter, lets you connect your home telephone to your PC and use it for VoIP service. This is done with the device converting analog sound bits into digital data. The main advantage is that you can use your existing telephone sets to make cheap VoIP calls. There are two types of VoIP ATA devices – for dial-up and broadband connections. The broadband analog telephone adapters are for high speed internet users. The dial-up VoIP ATA device has a 56 Kpbs modem built into the design. Broadband ATA can be found for about $65.

Internet Protocol (IP) phones resemble conventional phones and work in a similar way. They are different from conventional analog telephones as the former converts your voice directly into digital data instead of the analog signals produced converting your voice to digital data. Majority of these phones are for high speed internet users as they come with an interface to plug into the modem or router, but there are dial-up IP phones also available. Dial-up IP phones, similar to dial up ATA, come with a 56 Kpbs modem directly into the phone. There are also dual broadband/ dial-up IP phones available which are convenient due to their twofold compatibility.

Furthering the concept of a paperless office, a corporate VoIP system takes a step forward in making your office wireless. VoIP is a technology used by many corporations that uses a broadband internet connection to make calls. Since the system does not use the local telephone lines provided by the national telephone carrier, it also reduces costs, as these calls are charged at a much lower rate. Additionally, since the only link needed is that with a broadband connection, it reduced wires and cords needed in a traditional land line telephonic system.

Corporate VoIP solutions are cheap because they use internet service to help you communicate. All outgoing calls are treated as local calls, regardless of their destination. This alternative is also cheaper because internet communication is generally not regulated by most governments, thus almost eliminating the tax burden that forms part of the cost of any other phone. Also, since the VoIP software uses packet switching instead of circuit switching, it allows for more calls to be made simultaneously.

A major advantage of a corporate VoIP is its portability. Senior business executives who need to travel frequently can use this technology and easily communicate anywhere in the world. All they need is a high speed broadband internet connection, which is now usually easily available in even remote areas of the world. The caller needs to dial the same number, and the receiver gets the call, regardless of his actual location. With advancing technology, the technology is adding new features, including audio and video conversation, data exchange, managing address books and information exchange.

However, with the benefits outlined above, you also need to consider a few potential disadvantages of a business VoIP. Most importantly, in case of a power outage, there is service discontinuity. This is because the VoIP technology totally depends on the computer and modem to provide it with the power. Also, without power supply, the system cannot connect to the internet, therefore, communication is disrupted. Even when the traffic is high on the internet, the service can be poor, as it may not be able to get the required signal strength.

Voice quality can also be a problem sometimes. As with cordless phones as well as cell phones, signal strength determines the quality of voice the receiver hears. Therefore, if a business executive is traveling to some remote area, and plans to attend an important meeting at the head office using his VoIP, he must ensure proper facilities and connections are in place.

Security is a major determinant of whether a company chooses the technology or not. The concern is similar to that faced by all internet users, such as spam, viruses, crank calls, misuse of the facility by someone else, hacking etc. However, with appropriate security measures, these problems can be handled easily.

Providing you with a low cost alternative to international calling as well as the experience of talking on the phone, a USB internet phone is of great value in your home as well as your business. With both relatives and business alliances around the world, international calling is now frequent. However, with the traditional dialup internet connections, you had to rely on your internet service provider to be able to participate in vocal communication internationally. Additionally, the microphone / headphone you used did not provide the experience of talking over the phone. Now, with the advent of USB internet phones, these limitations have been removed.

Although the earlier versions of an internet USB phone were pretty simple and basic, with no different features than a microphone or headphone, spurring demand was anticipated by businesses, which directed their efforts to produce what we see today. The USB internet phone is an efficient way to reduce costs. With consumers, suppliers and employees expanding across the globe, international calling is a norm for any businesses. With this technology, international calling is free, as the call does not use any local telephone lines, and instead uses internet connections, thus saving significant costs. Therefore, a fast broadband connection is essential for its effective functioning.

With LCD display feature added to the list of benefits it offers cheaply, these phones are also easily compatible with VOPI systems, and allow teleconferencing. Now businesses do not have to set a meeting place for their global suppliers to get together to discuss the company’s payment policy. This can now be accomplished easily through this new technology, whilst also saving substantial dollars. Some of the earlier versions offering LCD display suffered from the problem of voice echo. However, the new versions have overcome this problem as well, thus matching the voice quality of conventional phones.

Another advantage is that these internet phones are available in cordless variants as well, making life so much more easy for the small business owner or a small household. The cordless phone can be carried to different parts of the home, without any interruption in voice quality. Also, new technology has combined the conventional landline phone and internet phone into one device. Therefore, for users who wish to use internet phone for international calling and landline phone for local dealings, this is a one stop solution to their communication needs.

Even if your internet connectivity is to and fro, you can still use these phones. The latest technology allows you to install a call transfer feature in them. Thus, even if your connectivity is currently down, and you have a customer calling from somewhere, the call transfer feature will transfer the customer’s call to any alternative number you provide it with, without he customer even recognizing the call transfer.
